6 Days 5 Nights

Package description:

  • Day 1:

We will start the day by taking a plane to San Carlos. Here we can see the San Juan River, a river that connects Lake Nicaragua (or Cocibolca) with the Caribbean Sea. From San Carlos we will take a boat to Los Guatuzos (1 hour by boat, 45 km). Once we arrive at the Guatuzo eco-lodge we will kayak the Papaturro River. We can see birds, caimans, and reptiles and the area is surrounded by beautiful wildlife and spectacular tropical flora.

  • Day 2:

After breakfast, we will cruise 3 km by boat to bird watch, we will also walk an air bridge trough the trees to make some beautiful pictures and contact the amazing wildlife. Later we will take a nature walk in a young forest.

  • Day 3:

Today we will go to Solentiname Island and stay in Hotel Celentiname. After checking in we will visit some of the 36 islands in the surrounding area. This is an interesting cultural place where we can see archaeological sites, pre-Colombian sculptures and caves. The fishermen and farmers that live on these islands have begun to take part in another famous activity since the 1960’s; creating primitive paintings using old traditions and drawing forms.

  • Day 4:

We invite you to learn about the importantance of the San Juan River. First we will head to San Carlos, from here we will take the public boat to El Castillo, an impressive fort build to protect this important trading route. In El Castillo we will be picked up and once again cruise further down the river until we reach the eco-lodge Bartola.

  • Day 5:

Today we will learn about the history of El Castillo by visiting the Castillo Fort one hour from Bartola Lodge. In this beautiful place we will visit a small town with no cars, perfect for relaxing. Later we will take the boat to The Biological Reserve Indio Maiz. Here we will take a walk through the middle of the forest that has many of the oldest trees in Central America. A local guide will show us the different plants used as natural medicine as well as birds, monkeys, and snakes (if we are quite). At the end of the walking tour, we can swim in the river Indio Maiz which connects with the San Juan River. And then back to Bartola Lodge.
